Rochester Amerks cut ties with team dentist accused of hosting racist Juneteenth party
Rochester, N.Y. — The Rochester Amerks hockey team announced they've ended their relationship with their team dentist who is accused of hosting a racist and misogynistic Juneteenth party.
The team released a statement the day after Rochester firefighter Jerrod Jones accused Dr. Nicholas Nicosia and his wife of hosting the event.
Representatives of the Amerks released the following statement:
We have chosen to end Dr. Nicosia’s relationship with our team upon learning of recent allegations. We do not tolerate racism in any form and it has no place in our world. We urge all individuals to help end racism and choose love in all their interactions with others.
Jones says he and three other firefighters were taken to the party by his captain, Jeffrey Kryway. Once there, he says there was Juneteenth flags, buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken, photos of some politicians on spikes, and a woman seemingly portraying Monroe County Legislator Rachel Barnhart in a sexual manner.
At City Council on Thursday, Mayor Evans said he hopes to provide an update on the investigation in "short order."
