July 3rd shortly after 7:00 pm Gates Police officers responded to the 200 block of Fox Run for the report of a person that had been shot. Police units arrived on scene and immediately spoke to a male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to his foot. The victim became uncooperative with Gates PD as they were rendering aid. The victim was ultimately transported to the hospital for treatment and did not want any help from the police refusing to provide details of the incident. Gates Police Officers located multiple spent 9mm rounds on the ground near where the shooting victim was located. Witnesses in the area stated that the male suspect was running along the street openly firing a handgun at the victim. This occurred while many people were outside to include children. Multiple shots were reported to have been fired by the suspect appearing to target the victim.
Information was derived by Gates Police officers that the suspect fled the scene in a white BMW which officers were able to obtain a license plate number for. A broadcast was put out to local law enforcement agencies and a New York State Trooper spotted the suspect vehicle on Congress Avenue in the City of Rochester. A traffic stop was conducted, and the suspect Carey Bradley (26 years old from Rochester New York – Picture attached) was taken into custody without incident. At the time of the traffic stop Troopers located a loaded 9mm handgun in Bradley’s possession which appears to have been stolen from Georgia. Bradley was turned over to Gates PD for our investigation.
At Gates PD Bradley was processed and charged with the following:
(1) Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree - Class C Felony
(5) Counts of Reckless Endangerment 1st degree – Class D Felony
(3) Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Class A Misdemeanor
Bradley was arraigned in Gates Court and sent to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash / $25,000 Bond.
We would like to extend our thanks to the New York State Police and Rochester Police Departments for all there help and assistance with this investigation.
Chief Robert Long
Gates Police Department
