Rochester's first homicide of the new year occurred Sunday evening.

According to Rochester Police, just before 6 p.m., officers responded to the area of North Street and Herald Street for reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, police found a male suffering from at least one gunshot wound lying on the ground. First responders also responded, but the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

North Street between Wilkins Street and Avenue D is closed to traffic. Herald Street between Hudson and North Street is closed as well.
